In the Spotlight this week is the 11th Annual GEORGE LINDSEY UNA FILM FESTIVAL (GLUFF), founded by UNA alumnus and celebrated actor/entertainer George Lindsey, to award filmmaking excellence with exposure, prizes, and a healthy dose of southern hospitality.

GLUFF provides an exceptional lineup of free workshops, panels, quality screenings, and networking opportunities with distinguished guests. Visiting guest stars have included Oscar winner Ernest Borgnine, SLING BLADE star Lucas Black, actor Stephen Root, makeup-effects artist Robert Hall, actor Cedric Pendleton, radio personality Mark Thompson, photographer David Lee, recording-industry executive Mike Curb, and music-video artist Ray Stevens.

Outstanding student films are recognized alongside such recent best-of-show winners as Shane Acker's Oscar-nominated film 9, Steve Guttenberg's P.S. YOUR CAT IS DEAD, Robert Hall's LIGHTENING BUG and the Kathryn Tucker Windham documentary KATHRYN: A STORY OF A TELLER, as well as Javier Fesser and Luis Manso's Oscar-nominated short, BINTA Y LA GRAN IDEA.

MISSION AND OBJECTIVE
The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival supports and showcases a wide range of films and music videos created by professionals, students, and faculty members from the US and around the globe.

MORE ABOUT THE FESTIVAL
The George Lindsey UNA Film Festival awards cash prizes to Golden Lion Award winners in each competitive category, while the Best of Show award comes with a $3,000 prize. In addition, the winner of the Clyde "Sappo" Black Sweet Home Alabama Award - presented to the best film show at least partially in Alabama - will receive a $2,000 prize.

Headquartered at the University of North Alabama, the Festival itself takes place throughout the Shoals area. The Shoals is an entertainment Mecca of the American South, with roots reaching to the heart of rock and roll, southern rock, and the blues. It is the birthplace of Helen Keller, "America's First Lady of Courage," W. C. Handy, "The Father of the Blues," and legendary Sam Phillips, "The Father of Rock and Roll," who first recorded the likes of Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Roy Orbison, Carl Perkins, and Jerry Lee Lewis. The Shoals area has always been known for its creative people, maverick spirit and energy.

Embrace that creative Alabama vibe, and submit to the George Lindsey UNA Film Festival today!
